Super Boat Races are Action-Packed [VIDEO]

One of the most lucrative and well-attended events in Clearwater, the Brighthouse Clearwater Super Boat Races are loud, colorful, fast and a blast.

If you’re at Bamboo Beach Club Resort this weekend, you’re bound to notice the throngs of people and the roar of motors September 25-27. That’s because the Super Boat races are back.

Last year’s races saw 50,000 people on about 2,500 boats for the 2.5-mile-long race course. Overall attendance surpassed 180,000 people watching from the beaches or the comfort of hotels, restaurants and condos along the beach. The boats, equipped with F-16 jet canopies and 6,000-horsepower engines, race at speeds of up to 180 mph off Clearwater Beach in the Gulf of Mexico.

There’s more to do than just watch the boats. The Super Boat event is a celebration of everything Clearwater. In addition to the race schedule, there are other activities the whole family can enjoy.

On Friday, September 25, from 5:30 p.m. – 10 p.m., there’s  the Tampa Bay Times Super Boat Parade, Cleveland Street Block Party and Concert with the David Smash Band. Visitors can meet the drivers, see the boats, and enjoy free family fun with contests, games, prizes and vendors.

On Saturday, September 26, local restaurants will share their great seafood recipes at the Seafood Festival at Baystar Race Village as visitors look at the boats, get autographs and photos, and enjoy live entertainment.

Also on Saturday is the Sunsets at Pier 60 festival and fireworks display. Grab some ice cream and prepare for the stunning sunsets Pier 60 is famous for showcasing.

The Super Boat Races will take over the Clearwater area, so resistance is useless. Walk around, enjoy the events and catch some super-fast boat racing.
